I had a busy day of non-DecAdv work so didn’t actually get anything done apart from a ’new’ broken Samsung a5y17lte arrived from ebay, it was listed as not working and must admit its in a pretty terrible shape. I think however I should be able to get it working - the goal of this device is to build a test rig for development, unfortunately the pads on the PCB that break out the serial lines are tiny, i’ve attempted to solder on my other devices and have failed, the last attempt I got the Tx working but then stupidly tried to get Rx attached and ended up lifting the pads, at that point its game over really. So if I can get this device to boot then I’ll try and solder some very thin enamelled wire to the pads and hopefully we’ll have a test rig to start testing kernels. If it doesn’t boot then it’ll be back to ebay to get another one…

Reading

I read the next story in the collection - this one was called ‘Night Fowls’ by Ana Sun, the rough story was about relationships and how its important to find common ground, while the concept of human/animal communication didn’t fully resonate with me I enjoyed the references to natural poisons and their role in the story arc.
